Este listado corresponde al billete de 50 centavos de J. Jones & A. H. Sawyer Store de 1862, una nota scrip de comerciante obsoleta fotografiada. Esta scrip es de la emisión posterior de las notas scrip de la tienda, fechada el 26 de noviembre de 1862. Ubicada en Alton, New Hampshire. Emitido y firmado, lo que aumenta el valor de la nota. Esta nota scrip se usaría de manera similar a un cupón moderno, otorgando al cliente un descuento de la cantidad determinada en su compra de más de 1 dólar en la tienda del comerciante. Las notas scrip se usaron popularmente durante la Guerra Civil y las consecuencias del pánico económico de 1857 en un intento de impulsar las ventas de los negocios locales.
Jerimah Jones se hizo cargo de la tienda de productos secos de su padre, ubicada en Monument Square en la calle principal de Alton, New Hampshire, en 1854. Por esta época, el comerciante local Alonzo H. Sawyer abrió su propia tienda de productos secos al regresar a Alton. La tienda de Sawyers creció rápidamente en popularidad debido a su diverso inventario que incluía comestibles, ferretería, zapatos, ropa y otras necesidades de la comunidad. Jones y Sawyer combinaron sus negocios, optando por quedarse en la ubicación de Jones en Monument Square en febrero de 1858. El negocio se disparó en popularidad después de esta colaboración debido a las habilidades y experiencia comercial combinadas de los hombres. La tienda prosperó bajo la operación de Jones y Sawyer hasta que Sawyer se retiró en 1883, después de lo cual Jones se unió a su hijo, Herbert Jones, renombrando la tienda "J. Jones & Son".
