Una moneda perfecta para una colección. Grado AU (Casi sin circular), lustre de la casa de la moneda visible. Las fotografías no le hacen justicia.
El primer centavo canadiense se acuñó en 1858 y tenía un diámetro de 1 pulgada (25,4 mm) y un peso de 1/100 de libra (4,54 g). Estos centavos se emitieron originalmente para poner algún tipo de orden en el sistema monetario canadiense, que, hasta 1858, dependía de la acuñación británica.
Los centavos grandes de 1858-1920 eran significativamente más grandes que las monedas modernas de un centavo e incluso ligeramente más grandes que la moneda moderna de 25¢. Después de la Confederación, estas monedas de un centavo grandes se acuñaron en el cospel del medio penique británico y tenían aproximadamente el mismo valor. Los peniques se emitieron esporádicamente en el tercer cuarto del siglo XIX. Se utilizaron en la Provincia de Canadá, Nuevo Brunswick y Nueva Escocia tras la Confederación en 1867. Nuevo Brunswick y Nueva Escocia habían emitido su propia acuñación antes de esa fecha, y Columbia Británica, la Isla del Príncipe Eduardo y Terranova continuaron emitiendo "peniques" hasta que se unieron a la Confederación. La moneda se redujo a su tamaño actual para que coincidiera con el tamaño del penique estadounidense.
El anverso presenta a la Reina Victoria, mientras que el reverso contiene grandes letras rodeadas por un diseño de corona de laurel.
