La moneda de cinco centavos (nickel) con la cabeza de la Libertad, a veces conocida como la moneda de cinco centavos (V nickel) debido al diseño de su reverso (o cruz), es una moneda estadounidense de cinco centavos. Fue acuñada para circulación desde 1883 hasta 1912, con al menos cinco piezas acuñadas subrepticiamente con fecha de 1913. El anverso presenta una imagen de la diosa de la Libertad mirando hacia la izquierda.
La pieza original de cinco centavos de cobre y níquel, la moneda de cinco centavos (Shield nickel), tuvo problemas de producción de larga data, y a principios de la década de 1880, la Casa de la Moneda de los Estados Unidos buscaba reemplazarla. Se le indicó al Grabador Jefe de la Casa de la Moneda, Charles Barber, que preparara diseños para las piezas propuestas de uno, tres y cinco centavos, que debían tener diseños similares. Solo se aprobó la nueva pieza de cinco centavos, y entró en producción en 1883. Durante casi treinta años se produjeron grandes cantidades de monedas de este diseño para satisfacer la demanda comercial, especialmente a medida que las máquinas que funcionaban con monedas se volvieron cada vez más populares.
A partir de 1911, la Casa de la Moneda comenzó a trabajar para reemplazar el diseño de la cabeza de la Libertad, y un nuevo diseño, que se conoció como la moneda de cinco centavos (Buffalo nickel), entró en producción en febrero de 1913. Aunque oficialmente no se acuñaron monedas de cinco centavos (Liberty head nickels) de 1913, se sabe que existen cinco. Si bien no se sabe con certeza cómo se originaron estas piezas, se han convertido en una de las monedas más caras del mundo, y una se vendió en 2018 por 4,5 millones de dólares.
