El Papiermark fue la moneda alemana a partir del 4 de agosto de 1914, cuando se abandonó el vínculo entre el Goldmark y el oro, debido al estallido de la Primera Guerra Mundial. En particular, los Papiermarks fueron la moneda emitida durante la hiperinflación en Alemania de 1922 y 1923.
