This listing is for the photographed 1918 1 Franc General Society of Belgium Banknote. This note was issued on October 19th, 1918, while Belgium was under German Occupation during World War I. The notes obverse design is printed in mauve ink, differentiating it from other issues. On the obverse of this note a portrait of Queen Louise-Marie is printed on the left end. Beautifully ornamented designs on both sides of the note, still in excellent condition. Minor ink fading from age, this note is 106 years old this year! It is rarer to find a note of this issue in such well-preserved condition, making it a must have for any collector! P#86b (Pick Number 86b).

As German forces occupied Belgium during World War 1, the countries National Bank, who had previously authorized all issuing of banknotes, had fled to London with all of their supplies, preventing Germany from printing banknotes under their institution. Instead, German forces took over the largest private bank of Belgium at the time, the Societe Generale de Belgique, issuing paper currency under their authority. This means that this bank note was issued under German Occupation and a direct result of this fascinating time in history! After Belgium regained their independence from German forces, the National Bank took over the issuance of paper currency again, abolishing the Societe Generale issuing authority.
