Este anuncio es para un níquel Jefferson de 1939-S, tal como se muestra en la imagen. ¡Elija por grado! Marca de ceca "S", que denota la Ceca de San Francisco.
Acuñado por primera vez en 1913, el níquel Buffalo había sido difícil de acuñar durante mucho tiempo, y después de que completara el plazo de 25 años durante el cual solo podía ser reemplazado por el Congreso, la Casa de la Moneda se apresuró a reemplazarlo con un nuevo diseño. La Casa de la Moneda llevó a cabo un concurso de diseño, a principios de 1938, exigiendo que Jefferson fuera representado en el anverso y la casa de Jefferson, Monticello, en el reverso. Schlag ganó el concurso, pero se le exigió que presentara un reverso completamente nuevo y realizara otros cambios antes de que la nueva pieza entrara en producción en octubre de 1938.
