1952 S Jefferson Nickel - ¡Elija por Grado!
Acuñado por primera vez en 1913, el níquel Buffalo había sido durante mucho tiempo difícil de acuñar, y después de que completó el período de 25 años durante el cual solo podía ser reemplazado por el Congreso, la Casa de la Moneda se movió rápidamente para reemplazarlo con un nuevo diseño. La Casa de la Moneda llevó a cabo un concurso de diseño a principios de 1938, exigiendo que Jefferson fuera representado en el anverso y la casa de Jefferson, Monticello, en el reverso. Schlag ganó el concurso, pero se le exigió que presentara un reverso completamente nuevo y realizara otros cambios antes de que la nueva pieza entrara en producción en octubre de 1938.
