El Brigadier General Harrison Reed Thyng (12 de abril de 1918 – 24 de septiembre de 1983) fue un piloto de combate y un general de la Fuerza Aérea de los Estados Unidos (USAF). Es notable como uno de los únicos seis pilotos de combate de la USAF en ser reconocidos como as en dos guerras. Al retirarse del ejército, Thyng se convirtió en candidato de Nuevo Hampshire al Senado de los Estados Unidos.
En 1966, Thyng se presentó como candidato del Partido Republicano para el escaño del Senado de los Estados Unidos por Nuevo Hampshire, ocupado por Thomas J. McIntyre. Prevaleció en unas primarias republicanas concurrida que incluyó a los exgobernadores Lane Dwinell y Wesley Powell, al presidente del partido William R. Johnson, y a Doloris Bridges, viuda del senador de los EE. UU. durante 25 años Styles Bridges. En las elecciones generales, McIntyre fue un firme partidario de la política de guerra de Vietnam del presidente Lyndon B. Johnson, neutralizando gran parte del atractivo de Thyng como conservador y halcón. Debido al apoyo financiero de H. L. Hunt y otros, y a su posición sobre la guerra, Thyng fue retratado con éxito como un candidato de extrema derecha y fue derrotado 54% a 45.9%.
Thyng fundó el New England Aeronautical Institute en 1965, que más tarde se fusionó con el Daniel Webster Junior College para convertirse en el Daniel Webster College en Nashua, Nuevo Hampshire, y fue su primer presidente. Se retiró a Pittsfield, Nuevo Hampshire.
Thyng falleció de un ataque al corazón el 24 de septiembre de 1983, a la edad de 65 años. Fue enterrado en el Cementerio Riverview en Barnstead, Nuevo Hampshire.
