2004 Jefferson - Westward Journey Nickel - Keelboat Reverse - US 5 cent UNC - Choose Mint (P/D) and Quantity
Buffalo Nickels were produced from 1913 to 1938. In 1938 it was replaced by the Jefferson nickel.
In 2004 and 2005 the Jefferson reverse changed from the historical Monticello to commemorate an event. This series of four different nickels is called The Westward Journey Nickels. The Keelboat Nickel is the second of four coins in the series.
The obverse depicts the portrait of Thomas Jefferson designed by Felix Schlag used on the nickel since 1938.
The reverse features an angled, side-view of the keelboat with full sail that transported members of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark are in full uniform in the bow.
A nice addition to a collection, as a gift, party favors or whatever your imagination may conjure up.
