Las monedas de bronce de diez yenes se acuñaron por primera vez en 1951, pero no se pusieron en circulación general hasta el 4 de enero de 1953. Las monedas de diez yenes acuñadas entre 1950 y 1958 tienen bordes estriados y se apodan Giza 10 (Giza Ju, ギザ10), que significa "moneda de 10 yenes dentada" en japonés. El diseño que se utiliza hoy en día presenta el Salón del Fénix de Byōdō-in en el anverso y hojas de laurel en el reverso. El diseño sigue siendo esencialmente el mismo, salvo que se eliminaron las estrías en 1959, lo que dio a las monedas un borde liso. También se realizaron ligeras modificaciones en la segunda mitad de 1986 con respecto al diseño de Byōdō-in.
Estas monedas no son culturalmente recomendables como ofrendas en santuarios, ya que otra palabra para "10" es "toh" (十), y otra palabra para "yen" es "en" (円). Combinar estos caracteres en "toh-en" también puede leerse como "destino lejano". Las monedas de diez yenes continúan produciéndose hasta la actualidad bajo la era Reiwa.
