This listing is for the German Rechenpfennig Counter Token By Heinrich Bonhorst. The obverse of this coin depicts Balance between scale cabinet and melting furnace whilst the reverse shows an eagle over mountain landscape. This Rechenpfennig or Counting Penny functioned as placeholders, allowing accountants to sum up large transactions without risking valuable, real currency during the calculation process. Produced primarily in Nuremberg, Germany, between the 13th and 18th centuries. Great Find!!
