Railroad Padlock & Key N.Y.N.H & H.R.R Heart Cast Style - 1800s or 1900s
Railroad Padlock & Key N.Y.N.H & H.R.R Heart Cast Style - 1800s or 1900s
This listing is for the pictured Heart-Shaped railroad padlock and key used by the New York, New Haven, & Hartford Rail Road. This lock style was popular in the late 1800s though the early 1900s until the more cost effective stamped lock was patented.
This is an amazing specimen of Railroad History and Americana!
Please note that the tooth of the key has some damage. We had the privilege to buy a large lot of locks and keys from a local collector. We were told that he tried this key in another lock and damaged the tooth. In the actual pair, the mechanism nearly opens, but the damage to the key seems to prevent it from being fully successful. The key turns properly in the lock, and you can feel it interact with all of the mechanisms. This is reflected in the price.
